Interesting how they made Zeus an all-wholesome dad when, in the actual myth, he was anything but.... if you know what i mean. Ahem.

Since Disney is more family oriented, its only natural that they would turn the myth into their own story. Which I like better.

In the myth Zeus was actually the mean one to put it mildly. I do think Disney did a good job toning things down and making the story really fun. Helen of Troy is also Zeus's offspring, so Herc and Helen are half siblings. Makes ya go ick when ya think about the series, and how Herc had a small crush on Helen at one time. In the myth Zeus killed his father, not banished, and it was not because his father tried to eat him either. Zeus was only kind and loving in the movie and the series. Seeing as it was meant for children I think it was a good thing.

yes, they did have to tone down a lot of stuff from the original myth.. i guess that's what makes pointing out the diffs between the myth and the Disney movie fun. i wasnt at all upset by the changes in the disney movie - a bit baffled, at first, but not upset. now that you mention herc and helen being half-siblings: the disney movie never pointed out that Hades' is Herc's uncle. though i believe Hades mentioned that in the TV series. hence, another family feud, similar to 'the lion king.'

Yea they did tone down a lot from the original myth to make it more family oriented. Another example is Herc himself in Greek myths In reward for Heracles' defending Thebes Megara was offered to Herc by her father(the king of Thebes). They had two kids whom Heracles killed. I'm not sure if that's the story exactly, but its along those lines.
